The Problem
The client wanted a complete redesign of their website. It was outdated, slow, and not secure. They also specifically wanted an easy way for people to register for The Avenue of Flags, a fundraising campaign where you can get a flag put out in your front yard for national holiday. Previously the only way to register was by mailing in a form. They wanted to include an option for new and returning customers to order online.
the solution
As the client was a non-profit organization, there were some specific design rules that I had to adhere to. The most important of which was adding a link to the national organization that this specific branch was a part of. I relied on the colors blue and red as a color scheme both as a reference to the American flag but also to complement their images. After the redesign, the most important thing was to create an online order form. I had to use their PDF order form combined with the customer’s wishes to decide what types of fields would work best. It needed to be very clearly laid out so that no one got confused by the ordering process. Finally, I needed to include a way for people to pay online while also continuing to give them the option of mailing in a check. After much research, I decided on integrating an option to be redirected to PayPal after submitting the form. This website was a huge success for the organization because it has increased the amount of Avenue of Flag orders they get each year.
